Teacher of the Deaf

We are seeking an Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf to provide direct service and consultation to preschool programs and school districts.  The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal communication skills, the ability to function independently and as a member of a team, and commitment to a positive, encouraging work environment.

Job Requirements:

Ability and Knowledge to:

– work collaboratively with general education staff and other service providers

– differentiate instruction in listening and spoken language to meet the needs of students who are deaf and hard of hearing;

– train students and teachers in the use and care of amplification systems used by students who are deaf and hard of hearing;

accommodate adult learning styles and different consultative models

Education and certification:

– Bachelor’s Degree, Deaf Education

– Maine Professional Educator License (292) w/ Teacher of Students who are D/HoH endorsement, or an equivalent license from another state and the candidate must obtain within a year of hire date.

Preferred:

– Master’s Degree in Auditory Oral Deaf Education, Speech Language Pathology or Audiology

– Certification or demonstrated progress towards certification: Listening and Spoken Language Specialist: Auditory Verbal Educator

– Two years experience in developing the cognitive, speech, language, and auditory abilities of children who are deaf and hard of hearing.
